Cushion Works is pleased to present an exhibition by Midori featuring artworks in cut paper collage and ceramic. Her work is inspired by plants and animals, and a connection to the natural world she has nurtured throughout her life.
Midori is a visual artist, poet, composer, musician, and dancer. She is originally from Yokohama and lives in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, where she has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions through the Community Arts Program, a free, drop-in art studio. She has also been a regular participant in art auctions organized by Hospitality House and the Coalition on Homelessness. Midori has taught art to children and seniors and played an active role in running a non-profit that assists Japanese newcomers in adjusting to life in San Francisco.
Each year, more than 3,500 artists benefit from materials and space to create, house, exhibit, and sell their artwork through the Community Arts Program. CAP regularly hosts exhibitions at its 1009 Market Street gallery and is a program of Hospitality House, a progressive, community-based organization in San Francisco providing opportunities and resources for personal growth and self-determination to houseless people and neighborhood residents.
